A girl walks into a Walmart...

Not much in the way of living room remodel was accomplished tonight. Got off work at 5:30 and stopped at Walmart on my way home to have some prescriptions filled. "It will be about an hour wait," said the pharmacy tech at the window. They will text me as soon as they are done. No problem...I can easily browse Walmart for an hour.

An hour and a half later - still no text and my basket was looking pretty healthy so I thought I would go check on my scripts to see if they were ready. After seeing the pick-up line about 15 people deep I just thought forget it and went to check out. I spent $71 and still no medicine.

Don't get me wrong - I am not criticizing Walmart. I'm the one who waited until the busiest time of the day to drop them off. I'm very attached to the cutest little Walmart pharmacy technician in the world - not naming names, but his initials are J.A.R.E.D. - and I've heard everything he has to go through in a day's work. I'm not going to be the grouchy old lady that ruins their day.

I think what I'm grouchy about is the fact that I walked into the doctor's office perfectly fine (in MY mind) and walked out on five medications. You would think what I do for a living would make me very aware of the benefits of preventative medicine. Practice what I preach and all that. However, I think it's had the opposite effect seeing as how I have a freakish aversion to going to the doctor. This was my first checkup in 10 years; what did I expect?

It's a wakeup call for sure. If I can do it, you can too! Get your flu shots, pneumonia vaccines, mammograms and checkups! I will practice what I preach from now on.

By the way, I received my text just a little over an hour ago. haha

Trying to get the hang of it...

Ugh.

As I wrote last night, we are about to resume updating our home starting with the formal living/dining. I was so excited to get started tonight that I had half the wallpaper ripped off the wall when I realized.....

No "before" shot. ugh. just ugh. We had already started a few things in this room before deciding to take a break for the holidays. Most of these were taken when we were advertising our old furniture for sale. This is our living/dining room in all it's 1998 glory:

We had already taken down the curtains and even changed out the light fixtures. We still had the sassy brassy builder grade chandelier over the dining room table, but changed it out with another one we found at the Habitat Restore. All it needed was some oil rubbed bronze spray paint love. I really like buying things at the Restore...the money from your purchases go right back to Habitat for Humanity plus your recycling (plus you're saving $$$$).

Close up of present border:

Of course it's going to put up a fight:

That white line is NOT just paint behind where the border was before I got over-anxious about pulling it off. That is what is left of the border that is glued for all eternity to my wall. Thank goodness it doesn't go all the way around the room. *sigh

We did find some great furniture on Craigslist:

Funny experience going to buy it...the guy selling it was absolutely terrified of us. He was certain we were weirdos that preyed on helpless Craigslist sellers haha. Ironically, we had the same discussion on the way there. We even had a get-away plan!

Plans for this room: crown molding, wainscoting, and no more sassy brassy!

Tell me about your hobbies and projects! Anyone score any great deals on Craigslist?

First Post

Hello!

I'm not new to bloggy world; I read ten to twelve (ok, more like 20) blogs a day...mostly about home design and crafts. I've never met any of the amazing women I follow, but I am so inspired by their creativity!

I've decided to start my own blog - just posting about day to day things, thoughts, and projects. It's a fun way to keep up with family and friends and maybe even make some new friends. I've found that naming your blog can be difficult... I will have to thank my daughter Kristen for The Crafty Hen. Her blog is titled "Nerdy Bird" so I guess I can follow her rationale of me being the hen. I'm not going to think about it too much ha!

So what have I been up to? Finally put the last Christmas decoration up today! How sad is that? Actually, I thought I had them all put away, but I had so much junk on my dining room table that when I cleaned it off I uncovered my Christmas centerpiece. How could I have missed that?? It was 3 feet tall for crying out loud! Oh well, it's done now. I've also been working on my niece's wedding. She is getting married June 4th. I think everything is coming together pretty well, but one of the challenges is that she lives in one town about 350 miles from me and the mother of the bride lives another 650 miles (or so) west of the bride. Thank goodness for facebook groups. Greg and I had a pretty quiet day at home and went to church tonight with our son Jared and his girlfriend. The praise service was wonderful as usual and we really enjoyed the message. Then afterwards went to the square to Beth Marie's for ice cream and Jupiter House for tea.

We are about to resume work on updating our home. I spent the better part of 2009 and 2010 working on our daughter's wedding and when it was all over found myself with nothing to do. The first couple of weeks in the recliner were great, but it didn't take long to see where that was going! So....we spent the latter part of last summer and most of the fall redoing our kitchen and den (I'll post pics when I figure out how). Next will be the formal living/dining and then we will start on the upstairs. I absolutely love working on home projects...keeps my mind busy and my body out of the recliner. And it doesn't have to by MY home...Kristen and I just finished her kitchen last weekend and I got to help my lil sis Lisa with hers. Fun stuff!

Well, it's late and I obviously have a lot to learn about writing a blog so I'll say good night for now. One of my New Year's resolutions is to go to bed earlier and I'm not doing so well with that.

Goodnight!
